SACRAMENTO – Today, the Senate Rules Committee appointed Dana Toppel to the California Commission on Aging during its hearing. As Chair of the California Senate Rules Committee, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), who recommended Toppel to serve on the commission, issued the following statement:
“Dana Toppel has devoted her life’s work to finding solutions to some of our most challenging social services issues. She has an impeccable track record of developing programs and leading strategies to provide services to underserved communities. I have no doubt her real life experience working with the San Diego senior population, combined with her immense technical knowledge, will allow her to lead innovative work for the Commission on Aging.”
Dana Toppel currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Jewish Family Service (JFS) of San Diego. She has nearly two decades of experience working with a variety of populations and is a licensed clinical social worker in California. Prior to her work for JFS, Toppel served as a director, consultant, and therapist for the San Diego LGBT Community Center, University of California at San Diego, and San Diego Youth & Community Services.
The California Commission on Aging is the principal advisory body to the Governor, State Legislature, and State, Federal and local departments and agencies on issues affecting older individuals in order to ensure a quality of life for older Californians so they may live with dignity in their chosen environment.
The appointment takes effect May 3, 2021 and is a three-year appointment.
