JFS names Tanya Hackel New Chief Advancement Officer

SAN DIEGO (June 7, 2024) – Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) has named Tanya Hackel the organization’s new chief advancement officer. In her new role, Hackel works closely with JFS’s development, marketing, and volunteer engagement departments to enhance relationships with supporters, stakeholders, and the community in support of JFS’ vision and mission. In addition, she will provide fundraising leadership, strategy, and support to JFS’ CEO and board of directors and work closely with JFS’s COO to align institutional giving and individual giving with program needs.

“I am excited and honored to be joining JFS, an organization that has been making a positive impact in our San Diego community for over 100 years. I have seen how this organization shows up those in need – for a Holocaust survivor, for a young parent in need of diapers and for a family in need of a safe place to sleep. JFS shows up for everyone and that resonates very deeply with me, especially at this time,” said Hackel. “It is our shared values that compel us to do this work.”

“Tanya’s extensive expertise in non-profit fundraising, communications and marketing will help us strengthen our comprehensive advancement program and ensure JFS’ ongoing success and sustainability,” said JFS CEO Michael Hopkins.

Hackel joins JFS from Lifeline Community Services where she served as the chief development officer, overseeing the private fundraising, volunteer program, and internal and external marketing and communications efforts for the 50-year-old human service organization.

Before Lifeline, Hackel served as the chief development and communications officer at JCCA, a child welfare agency in New York City. Prior to that, Hackel was the director of development at the Hebrew Free Loan Society in New York. Hackel began her development career at UJA-Federation of New York. Before her work in the non-profit sector, Hackel worked in account management at various advertising agencies in New York City. Hackel earned her master’s degree in public administration from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and her bachelor’s degree from Williams College and sits on the board of the Hebrew Free Loan San Diego and North County Philanthropy Council.
