Jewish Family Service Receives 12th Consecutive 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator

SAN DIEGO (Nov. 6, 2019) – Charity Navigator – America’s leading independent charity evaluator has awarded Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) a 4-star rating for the 12th consecutive year. More than 9,000 U.S. charities undergo rigorous evaluations, with only 1% of charities awarded this rating continuously for more than a decade.

“This rating signifies Jewish Family Service’s longstanding commitment to be a trusted resource for families and individuals in San Diego who are working hard to create better lives for themselves,” said JFS CEO Michael Hopkins. “JFS thanks our donors, staff and volunteers who support and make our mission possible.”

Charity Navigator researches two categories to determine the standards of a 4-star charity – financial health, and accountability and transparency. These ratings demonstrate how efficiently charities use donors’ donations, how well they sustain programs and services over time, their level of commitment to good governance and a willingness to share plans and progress with the public.

“This is our highest possible rating,” said Michael Thatcher, president and CEO of Charity Navigator, “Year after year, Jewish Family Service continues to excel in its industry and commitment to financial health and accountability.”

The 4-star rating proves JFS continues to be one of San Diego’s most impactful nonprofit human services agencies and consistently exceeds the industry standard.
